I recently took a much needed family trip to Cabo San Lucas Mexico. I went with few expectations, simply hoping for nice weather, plenty of pool time, and some great meals along the way. Little did I know that I would walk away with so much more.
When booking our hotel accommodations, we based it off location, location, location. You see we were attending a wedding and we wanted to be in close proximity to the wedding venue and other celebrations throughout the weekend. I have to give credit where it’s due, and it was my husband who secured our hotel rooms at the Garza Blanca property in Cabo.
From the moment we walked into the property, not only were we greeted with amazing weather and ambiance, we were also greeted with an incredible staff of people throughout our entire stay. What I thought was interesting was that in addition to the warm smiles and friendliness of the staff, every time we encountered a team member each one of them stopped what they were doing and put their right hand across their heart to say “hello”, “good morning”, “what can I help you with,” etc. On the first day, while I noticed it, I did not pay too much attention to it… however by day two, I brought it up to my husband as an observation and posed the question, “I wonder if there is a special significance for this gesture of placing their hands over their hearts?” The curiosity of course got the best of me and sometime that day, when the hand was once again placed over the heart, I asked the team member. What is the significance behind this greeting? For which she responded, “it is a sign of greeting you with our hearts.” That for me sealed the deal of how much more I fell in love with this property and the community that the staff has built.
As someone who grew up in Las Vegas and worked in the hospitality industry, I can’t tell you how special it was to hear this. Maybe because there is so much struggle and suffering through our communities and around the world, but imagine if every time we crossed paths with someone, we were each acknowledged and greeted with a warm greeting from the heart? Imagine the possibility of how this would potentially change things? Perhaps in the way we see and respect one another, in setting the intentions for our days, in building communities.. the possibilities? Perhaps endless.
All it takes is for each one of us to make a concerted effort in a greeting from the heart. Regardless of where you are when you read this, will you join me in this effort?
I want to applaud the entire staff at Garza Blanca Cabo San Lucas for giving me a space for a much needed refresh but also in teaching me a lesson that I now have the opportunity to share with each of you.
