What Does Multicultural Mean?

Hola

I’m so excited to welcome you to #MiComunidad blog post, where I will be sharing multicultural marketing and communications with an emphasis in the state of Nevada. This winter Ericka Aviles Consulting LLC will be turning six years old! I am so grateful to continue elevating our community and our great state via this blog as well as directly with my clients, managing Latinas in Power and sharing valuable content through other channels of communication.

Before we dive too much into various topics, I thought it would be timely to start with answering an important question that I receive quite often,  “What does multicultural marketing mean?” According to Miriam Webster, the definition is “the practice of marketing to one or more audiences of a specific ethnicity—typically an ethnicity outside of a country’s majority culture, which is sometimes called the “general market.”

Typically, multicultural marketing takes advantage of the ethnic group’s different cultural referents—such as language, traditions, celebrations, religion and any other concepts—to communicate to and persuade that audience.

Two Examples of What it Looks Like In Practice in Nevada, which our team has had the opportunity to work on:

  1. Está en Tus Manos Nevada – A Hispanic marketing campaign targeting Hispanics in Southern Nevada about COVID-19 via integrated marketing efforts including paid and earned media, dedicated website and social media and extensive grassroots community outreach efforts.
  2. Nevada Health Link- Nevada Health Link is where residents of Nevada can purchase state-certified health insurance plans based on their income. Our team has worked closely with the Nevada community on reaching various multicultural residents in our great state.

If you are in Nevada and want to stay connected with what marketing and community outreach campaigns I am working on, as well as community events, sign up for future newsletters here.

Looking forward to seeing you in person and/or social media!
